If you are interested in auditioning for a company, becoming a choreographer or setting up and running your own dance company then this is the session not to be missed.
Rosie will to share 23 years of experience in the business as a dancer, a choreographer and as a company director.
Dane will tell of his experiences being a leading dancer internationally, and making the transition to being a choreographer and most recently an artistic director of a leading company.
Dane is Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre. He is a multi-award winning director, choreographer and dancer. Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, he trained at Rambert School in London, supported by a Nelson Mandela/Linbury Trust scholarship in 2003, and later joined Rambert Dance Company, National Dance Company Wales and Company Wayne McGregor, and was a company dancer for Phoenix from 2007 to 2009.
Dane’s career as a dancer has garnered him several accolades and critical acclaim, both nationally and internationally. He won the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards twice; first in 2006 in the ‘Spotlight Dancer of the Year’ category and again in 2014, winning the Best Male Dancer of the Year Award. He was also voted 3rd by an international jury of dance writers and critics for Dance Europe Magazine’s Top 100 Dancers of the Year in 2012. Rosie Kay is an award-winning choreographer and Artistic Director of Rosie Kay Dance Company. RKDC creates brave new dance in Birmingham that tours to audiences at home and abroad. Rosie has a reputation for making bold, original and exciting works that challenge perceptions and take on innovative subjects with deep, invested research.
Recent projects include Absolute Solo II which saw Rosie return to performing, Rosie Kay’s Fantasia, 5 SOLDIERS and 10 SOLDIERS presented in association with the British Army, MK ULTRA and MODERN WARRIOR. Rosie Kay Dance Company are a National Portfolio Organisation, supported by Arts Council England and are Associate Company to Birmingham Hippodrome theatre.
Rosie is currently touring her solo show and is in the process of creating a large-scale, Birmingham based Romeo+ Juliet which will premiere in September. Awards include Best Independent Dance Company, National Dance Awards and Leverhulme Artist in Residence, University of Oxford.
